I’m Safe App: Contributing to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

UN'S sustainable

There has not been a day when women across the globe worried about their safety. From the youngest to the oldest, we are harassed, abused, and even verbally attacked by people despite being in a civilised nation. Women’s safety is one of the most crucial issues, and despite undeniable concepts and strategies, we are still struggling with our safety and freedom.

With smartphones and technology rapidly creating their new world, women’s safety apps are increasing in number, creating a safe space, and helping them cope with the world. It’s time to put the right foot forward and fight with the demons, because if not now, then never.

The UN for women has set 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. These goals aim towards ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all. However I’m Safe women’s safety app is working towards these goals, and a few of them are as follows:

Gender Equality:

When we talk about gender equality, every gender has the right to thrive in the aspects they are best at. Thanks to patriarchal society and its different unstable mentalities that have been passed down through the generations, the women’s safety app helps in addressing safety and walking towards gender equality. When women are provided with a tool for their safety, they are enriched with confidence, empowerment, and the confidence to walk in society instead of back footing it and hiding in our safe space.

Decent Work and Economic Growth:

Providing a safe and happy workspace for women is a gift in itself. Women often face discrimination, gender inequality, and harassment from male colleagues, leading to low morale and productivity. With I’m Safe app, women can feel safe and protected, which can lead to increased productivity and better retention rates and ultimately contribute to the growth of the economy. By enabling anonymous reporting, night shift safety, SOS trigger alerts, and providing a female advisor to address workplace issues, this app can create a positive work environment, adding gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Sustainable Cities and Communities:

As women, our first priority is to ensure our personal safety. By coming together and creating ground-level communities, we can provide a safe and supportive environment for women to share their concerns and challenges. The I’m Safe app is designed to help women stay safe by allowing them to track their location, send emergency alerts to friends and family, and record incidents anonymously. With these features, women can feel more connected and engaged in their communities while feeling secure. Moreover, active participation in the I’m Safe community can lead to more sustainable and fair cities where women can play an active role in the social and economic development of their communities.

Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions:

Through the I’m Safe app, women are equipped with a powerful tool to protect themselves and pursue justice in the face of any untoward incidents. The app’s features, including SOS alerts, anonymous reporting, and anonymous recording, empower women to seek justice in the event of harassment or violence. Notably, all photos and audio recordings captured through the app are securely stored in a tamperproof database, which ensures that the data cannot be deleted or altered. This evidence can be used in a court of law to help women seek justice and hold perpetrators accountable. By promoting a culture of safety and justice, the I’m Safe app helps to build strong institutions that prioritize the rights and wellbeing of women, fostering a more peaceful and equitable society where women can thrive without fear or insecurity.

Quality Education:

Women often face discrimination and harassment, preventing them from pursuing education in their areas of interest. With the I’m Safe app, educational goals are not a far cry anymore. Women of all age groups can step up, choose, and pursue their educational dreams with safety at their fingertips. The app provides features like track me, anonymous reporting, and SOS, commute safety which can help women feel safe and protected both on and off campus. By promoting a culture of safety and security, the app empowers women to pursue education in their areas of interest, leading to better quality education for women. This, in turn, can lead to more opportunities for women to contribute to economic and social development.

Partnership for Goals:

The app promotes a culture of safety and security for women in the workplace. Women are victims of workplace harassment, thus resulting in low self-esteem, and are tagged as less valuable, which directly affects the partnership idea in business.

However, the I’m Safe app provides features like anonymous reporting, night shift safety, and org help to help women flourish in their line of knowledge and create a healthier workplace for women. When the culture of safety is promoted in organisations, it allows women to be empowered to be valued business partners and work towards common goals. This can lead to more opportunities for women to contribute to economic and social development, ultimately leading to a more equitable and sustainable world for all.

Good Health and Well-Being:

Women’s safety is crucial to our lives, allowing them to move around freely without the fear of being harassed, abused, or discriminated against. The I’m Safe app provides features like SOS, fake calls, and anonymous recordings, which can be used in emergencies, giving women peace of mind knowing that they have a tool to protect themselves. By addressing women’s safety concerns, the app empowers women to take control of their physical and mental health, leading to overall well-being and cutting down on stress and anxiety.

Conclusion:

On a final note, goals are achieved when every citizen understands and takes a stand for gender equality, consents, and starts respecting women around them. When the world is designed for both men and women to survive, why is the male dominating the world and the females still struggling to keep up? Right now, as a nation, we have a long way to go with women’s safety and achieving goals.
